Edmonton’s most positive male role models being recognized in annual awards

EDMONTON – For the tenth straight year, men in Edmonton who make a positive difference are being recognized.

The Centre to End All Sexual Exploitation is asking Edmontonians to nominate men who inspire those around them through service, leadership and advocacy as part of the organization’s Men of Honour Awards.

“Often only the men who hurt people get the headlines,” said Kate Quinn, CEASE Executive Director.

“We wanted to find a way to help our boys and our young men and our whole community know about the quiet lives of many men who strengthen our community,”

Celebrating role models in the community is one way to fight sexual exploitation and sex trafficking, the organization says.

“Raising awareness around sexual exploitation is an enormous issue for society if we want to have a just society,” said Simon O’Byrne, Men of Honour Awards Honourary Chair.

“Likewise, it’s equally important that we celebrate all the men that are doing great things in our community.”

Ninety-eight men have been recognized during the first nine years of the awards. The annual nomination was started during the tenth year of the Edmonton Prostitution Offender Program.

Those who would like to nominate someone can email moh@ceasenow.org. Nominations close March 31.
