VERNON – Hot air balloons rose above Vernon Friday morning heralding the beginning of the annual Vernon Winter Carnival. A new Queen Silver Star was crowned Thursday evening, and events including the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and Snow Sculpture Competition are already underway.
However, there is lots of rain in the forecast for Vernon this weekend. Organizers are hoping mother nature will cooperate and keep Vernon as dry as possible. Rain would ground the balloons and cause problems for sculptors.
The annual parade is set for Saturday at noon.
