PENTICTON – The Downtown Penticton Association has file court documents in response to a wrongful dismissal lawsuit.
Laurel Burnham was fired in October by the DPA board from her job as manager of the city’s Community Market.
Burnham sued for $25,000, claiming she has suffered “stress, anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment and financial distress” because of her termination.
But in its statement of defence to the allegations, the DPA says there is just cause for the dismissal and Burnham was not treated unfairly.
It says Burnham’s work performance was unsatisfactory and she was warned it needed improvement if she was to keep her job.
The DPA also claims it offered Burnham a five weeks wages in lieu of notice and to treat her firing as without cause as a gesture of good faith but Burnham rejected it.
