Edmonton 10th most romantic city in Canada, trails Saskatoon: report

EDMONTON – Despite our gorgeous river valley sunsets, and one of the highest birth rates in the country, Edmonton has dropped a spot on Amazon.ca’s annual Most Romantic City in Canada report. This year, the City of Champions came in tenth.

Last year, Edmonton was ranked #9. Tenth place puts us behind such lovers’ hotspots as Waterloo (#3), Saskatoon (#4) and Red Deer (#6).

Other Alberta cities in the top 20 include Calgary (#5) and Lethbridge (#13).

The e-commerce company ranked cities based on purchases that included romance novels, relationship books, romantic comedies, tunes from crooners like Michael Buble and Barry White, as well as jewelry and “sexual wellness” items. Sales data for 2014 was compared on a per capita basis in cities with more than 80,000 residents. Victoria placed highest in all categories, for the third year in a row.

New to this year’s rankings was data from Amazon.ca’s sexual wellness store, which sells “pleasure products”, sex furniture and condoms. The wild west coast dominated in this category with Victoria on… um… top, followed by Waterloo and North Vancouver.
