WINNIPEG – Power was restored early Thursday morning to all homes affected by a power outage that turned out the lights for 9,000 customers in Garden City, West Kildonan and East Kildonan.

The power outage was caused by a fire on a Manitoba Hydro pole at about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

More than half of those affected had their power restored by 8:30 p.m., but others were without electricity until almost 2 a.m.

The pole at McPhillips Street and Kingsbury Avenue held four separate circuits that needed to be repaired and reattached, a Manitoba Hydro spokesperson said Wednesday.

With Winnipeg under a boil water advisory, the power outage also affected people’s ability to access drinking water.
