Man faces charges in random attack near Maple Leaf Gardens

TORONTO- A 62-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court to face charges in connection to a random assault that took place near Maple Leaf Gardens Sunday morning.

Four people were attacked in what police describe as a “bit of a rampage.”

It happened at around 8:30 a.m., in the Church Street and Carlton Street area.

Three people were stabbed and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries to their upper bodies. A fourth person was also attacked but was not injured.

Police say the victims did not know each other, or the attacker.

“They were walking out, doing their own thing. This was completely random,” said Toronto Police Det. Phil Hibbeln of Toronto Police.

Sixty-two-year-old Shawn O’Neill was apprehended on Sunday.

He faces multiples charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Two weeks ago,  two men were stabbed in the same area, one fatally.
