WINNIPEG — Several train cars went off the tracks in downtown Winnipeg near Pioneer Avenue and William Stephenson Way just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Emergency crews responded to the area where nine CN rail cars derailed on the westbound track. William Stephenson Way and Pioneer Avenue were blocked to all traffic until fire crews determined there was no danger of leaks or other damage.
The only loaded train cars were filled with sand. CN crews were working Wednesday night to restore the line to service.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
