UPDATE: A student is facing disciplinary measures after admitting to police he/she was behind a fake bomb threat at Shuswap Middle Schoool. Salmon Arm RCMP say school officials discovered someone had written on a bathroom wall in the school that there was a bomb in the school. Following protocol, staff evacuated the building and it was locked down. Fire crews, emergency services and police attended. After speaking with several people, police identified the student who then confessed to writing on the bathroom wall and that the threat was not real. Sergeant Andrew Hunter says the student’s admission was confirmed by other evidence and a locker search. He says there are no criminal charges at this time.
UPDATE: A large assembly is planned at Shuswap Middle School on Wednesday with RCMP. School district staff say the impacts of false bomb threats and similar situations will be discussed as well as safety at the school.
UPDATE: Classes will resume Tuesday afternoon at Shuswap Middle School after a bomb threat lead to its evacuation. “The culprit of the prank bomb threat at Shuswap Middle School has been identified,” says Alice Hucul with School District 83. “Students and staff are now walking back to the school and will resume afternoon classes.” She says students will be dismissed at the regular time.
SALMON ARM, B.C. — Shuswap Middle School was evacuated Tuesday morning due to another bomb threat according to Alice Hucul with School District 83. She says the roughly 600 students are safe and had been evacuated to the school field.
“At this point we are not dismissing students for the afternoon but focusing on locating the student or students responsible.”
Hucul says students are being taken to South Broadview School on a temporary basis while RCMP speak to several students. Salmon Arm RCMP say they will be releasing more information when it becomes available.
