Man wanted in fatal TransCanada crash turns himself in

CALGARY – RCMP have taken into custody a man wanted in connection to a fatal crash near Lake Louise last year.

On Wednesday morning, RCMP announced a warrant had been issued for Varden Hovakimyan.

One woman was killed and one man was seriously injured when a BMW X5 rolled on westbound Highway 1 on May 24th, 2014.

The vehicle was being driven by Hovakimyan.

RCMP say Hovakimyan had been staying at The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope in Calgary. He called police at 4:30 Wednesday, saying he was walking over to the arrest processing unit.

Hovakimyan faces three charges, including careless driving.
