WATCH: A former Vancouver chef has been sentenced for using a hidden camera to spy on his customers. Catherine Urquhart explains why the judge wanted to send a message.
The former co-owner of a Vancouver restaurant accused of placing a camera in a public washroom was sentenced this morning.
Allan Bosomworth, who admitted to hiding the camera at his upscale Two Chefs and a Table restaurant to spy on patrons and staff, received a suspended sentence with 12 months probabtion. The offence took place during the busy holiday season from Dec. 14 – 18 in 2012.
The restaurateur was charged Sept. 11, 2013 after his co-owner, Karl Gregg, discovered the USB-key-sized camera. Their restaurant is now closed.
Bosomworth entered a surprise guilty plea in September to one count of secretly observing nudity in a private place. He will not face jail time for his offence, however.
The crown is asking for a suspended sentence with probation. The defence wants a conditional discharge with no criminal record.
