Suspect in custody in New Year’s house party shooting hasn’t been charged

CALGARY – Police say a man they took into custody on Thursday has not been charged in connection with a deadly New Year’s shooting.

One man was taken into custody from a home in the community of Bankview around 5:30 p.m.

It’s believed the man was an invited quest who attended the deadly New Year’s party.

One man was killed and six others were injured when gunfire erupted at a home in the 1900 block of 36th Street S.W. on January 1st.

Police later confirmed 26-year-old Abdullahi Ahmed was the young man killed in the attack.

Police say they are reviewing surveillance video, and have completed their search of the home where the shooting took place.

They are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call police or speak to Crime Stoppers.

The suspect is being held on unrelated charges.
