Heavy fog blankets B.C.’s South Coast causing local flight delays

VANCOUVER – Heavy fog has descended on B.C.’s South Coast, with drivers being warned to slow down and leave room between cars as visibility is very poor.

With a strong temperature inversion over Western B.C., especially on the South Coast, the fog is caused by milder temperatures at higher elevations. Metro Vancouver is seeing the worst of the fog, along with areas close to the Strait of Georgia and Juan de Fuca.

Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga says fog will persist Thursday morning before lifting in most areas in the afternoon. Fog will likely be extensive again tonight, but less widespread on Friday. Meanwhile, a mostly clear sky will hold today in the Fraser Valley, due to drier air blowing in from the east, plus on the North Shore Mountains above the temperature inversion.
