How you feel about the recent snowfall might depend on what line of work you are in. For many, snow means unwelcome shoveling and a hard time getting to work. However, there are those who are actually benefiting from the influx of flakes. Private snow removal businesses are finding themselves with lots of work. Mike Carey says his business, MPC Maintenance Plus, is getting more calls for service than it can take.
“This is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve heard about it back in the older days,” says Carey. “It is great to be working.”
Monday’s dump of powder attracted big crowds at Silver Star. Many were likely set to return to work after a holiday break, but the ski hill says they were actually busier Monday.
“Our numbers yesterday doubled from the day before,” says senior sales manager Jacqueline Birk.
“They were pouring into the car park in the morning and I think a lot of people weren’t at work when they were supposed to be,” says skier Kerrie Lay.
However, Mother Nature can be fickle. It rained at the resort Tuesday. Whether you like the snow or dread it, warmer temperatures could bring melting, and a whole new set of challenges for the region.
