If you think you’re excited for Christmas morning, imagine what it might be like to be 7 years old and celebrating Christmas for the “very” first time.
Tonight, Guodong Wu and his family are doing just that.
“We decorated a Christmas tree, we decorated our house with flashing lights and it’s great.” says Wu.
The Wus moved to Moncton from South China about 6 months ago, where Christmas is not widely celebrated. They recently opened a coffee shop in Dieppe, New Brunswick.
On Christmas Eve, 7 year old Yutont Wu could barely contain her excitement.
“This is my first time to do a ginger bread house and I am very happy.”
Guodong says Yutont’s mother told her about the story of Christmas after researching the holiday on the Internet and learning all about a big jolly guy in a red suit that delivers presents on Christmas eve.
“Before moving here she don’t believe in Santa Claus cause she thought it was fake. But after moving here a lot of people talking about Christmas now she is very excited about it she can get a present from Santa Claus.” says Wu.
The holiday will also offer the family be a much needed break from long hours spend opening up their new coffee shop with their partners, the Fangs, who are also celebrating their first Christmas in Canada.
Wenqi Fang says just being here in Canada is the best gift of all “love the life I enjoy it here and the first winter it is very nice.”
“I know it was the right choice we love it here.” says Wu and he says and he simply can’t wait to see the look on his daughter’s face tomorrow morning when she’ll finally discover that yes Yutont – there is a Santa Clause.
“I just think I don’t want to sleep.” says Yutont.
