VANCOUVER – Surrey RCMP say dangerous driving charges have now been approved against the two drivers involved in a street racing incident that occurred in Surrey last December.

Adam Shtay, 27 and from Edmonton, and Joshua Dally, 31 and from Surrey, have been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of motor vehicle while street racing.

On Dec. 22, 2014, witnesses noticed two cars speeding on Highway 99 near 32nd Avenue in Surrey. A 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago had crashed and was on fire. Shtay and the other occupants were standing by, unhurt, while Surrey Fire Services extinguished the vehicle. Another vehicle, a 2013 Dodge Viper, and its occupants and driver, Dally, were also standing nearby speaking to the Lamborghini’s occupants.

Surrey RCMP recommended criminal charges against both drivers to Crown Counsel. During the course of their investigation, officers learned that the vehicles reached speeds up to 157 km/h.

“Surrey RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in helping advance this investigation,” says Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr. “Luckily no one was seriously injured, however, the consequences of such a high speed collision on a major arterial roadway in our city could have been catastrophic.”
