RCMP detachments across Saskatchewan dealt with a number of collisions around the province Wednesday morning, including one involving a fatality. The deadly crash happened on Highway 4 near North Battleford.

Mounties say alcohol was a factor after a three-quarter ton pickup and a minivan collided around 8:30 a.m. south of the Hamlin grid road near the grain terminal. Police say the minivan was slowing to make a right hand turn off the highway when it was struck from behind by the truck.

The driver of the minivan, a 56-year-old woman from the Battlefords, died as a result of the collision. Her name has not been released at the request of the family.

The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries. He has been arrested and charges are pending including impaired driving causing death.

Highway 4 was closed for six hour at the crash scene while police carried out their investigation.
