One dead in two-vehicle Yorkton, Sask. crash

YORKTON, Sask. – One person is dead and two others were injured after two vehicles collided Monday afternoon in Yorkton, Sask. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 16 and York Road.

Mounties say a Ford Windstar with three people and a Dodge Ram truck collided at the intersection just after 5:30 p.m. The van then ended up in a ditch.

A passenger in the van, a 78-year-old woman, died as a result of injuries she sustained in the collision.

The second passenger, a 68-year-old woman, was taken to Yorkton Regional Hospital and then transported to a Regina hospital in critical condition. The driver of the van, a 68-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition. There is no word on their current conditions.

All three are from Sturgis, Sask. Their names have not been released.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash. They also say there was some snow on the roads at the time of the collision.

Yorkton RCMP, along with a traffic reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
