UPDATE: Highway 9 eastbound lanes are now fully open after earlier rockfall.
Rock slides forced the closure of two B.C. highways tonight.
Highway 1 eastbound is closed near the ramp from Highway 9. The slide happened around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Geotechnical crews have been unable to confirm the cause of the slide due to darkness. It will be closed overnight with crews returning at sunrise to inspect and clear the area, which is between Chilliwack and Hope east of Bridal Falls. Traffic out of the Fraser Valley is being diverted to Highway 7. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Meanhwile, another rock slide has come down on Highway 3 west of Keremeos, the same area where boulders struck three vehicles last January, sending one person to hospital.
Drivers should check with DriveBC for updates.
