Credit card skimmers nabbed in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – Two men are facing fraud related charges after police searched a Saskatoon apartment last week. Police believe they may be responsible for a number of frauds in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.

The investigation started in July after police were informed unknown individuals were using stolen credit card information obtained by card skimming at locations in Western Canada. Card skimming is a way to steal payment information during legitimate transactions.

Through video surveillance investigators identified four individuals and determined the group was in Saskatoon. On Dec. 4, a search warrant was executed at an apartment in the 600-block of Confederation Drive.

Officers found numerous items they believe were obtained fraudulently. They also located two insecure firearms and ammunition.

During the search a 41-year-old man returned to the apartment and was arrested. He is facing fraud and fraud-related charges.

A second man was arrested Monday morning. Along with fraud charges, the 39-year-old man is facing four firearm charges. No names have been released.

Police continue to investigate and have requested warrants for three other men believed to be involved in the skimming operation.
