Highway 400 reopens after fatal crash

TORONTO – The northbound lanes of Highway 400 from Highway 88 to Highway 89 were closed for several hours overnight due to a fatal collision investigation.

Ontario Provincial Police say a car and a transport truck collided killing one person.

Police say the crash happened around 8 p.m. which forced authorities to shut down the busy highway between Toronto and Barrie, Ont. for several hours. The lanes were reopened around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Earlier, Environment Canada placed part of a stretch of central Ontario – from Grey-Bruce east to Peterborough-Kawartha lakes – under a snow squall warning.

The OPP has warned the blowing snow has resulted in zero visibility on Highway 400.

South Simcoe Police are warning motorists to stay off the roadways in Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury as police continue to respond to several weather related collisions.

In Barrie, the severe weather and whiteout conditions have forced the city to cancel all programming at its recreational centres Tuesday night.
