EDMONTON – A woman died Wednesday night after the vehicle she was driving was hit by a large truck west of Edmonton.

The collision happened west of Edmonton on Highway 16 and Range Road 44 at about 9:00 p.m.

The RCMP says the SUV was hit by a five tonne truck as it crossed the eastbound lanes of Highway 16.

The woman driving the SUV died at the scene. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Police say she was 25 years old and a resident of Yellowhead County, but her family has asked her name not be released.

Investigators believe the woman went through a stop sign unsafely, not seeing the truck.

Road conditions or alcohol aren’t believed to be factors.
