RCMP charge man after dangerous chase all over Southern Alberta

RCMP have charged a Rimbey man accused of causing Halloween havoc on the roads  in four Southern Alberta communities.

The morning of October 31st, the driver of a stolen pickup led police on a dangerous chase through Calgary, Airdrie, Didsbury and Cochrane, causing several hit and runs and property damage.

The incident started with a tip to Calgary police about a suspected drunk driver.

The HAWCS helicopter followed the pickup after it was spotted driving over 100 kilometres an hour,  at times driving down the wrong side of the road and on the sidewalk.

Police said the driver posed a serious danger to the public .

When the pickup approached Airdrie, local RCMP tried to pull the vehicle over with emergency lights on and sirens blaring, but the driver wouldn’t stop.

Officers followed the vehicle through Didsbury and Cochrane before it went off the road, smashing through fences and damaging fields and then coming to a stop.

Airdrie RCMP say it’s a miracle no one was killed or injured.

Drugs are believed to be a factor.

James Irwin, 27, of Rimbey is facing 18 charges.
