EDMONTON – A 27-year-old man is facing charges in the theft of a police SUV Thursday morning in north Edmonton.

Ian Trevor Ball has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, assault on a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving and resisting a peace officer.

A woman called police around 5:30 a.m. and reported she had been approached by a man on foot and threatened.

Officers responded and a canine unit was able to track down the suspect in the area. However, police say he got away from them, then stole their SUV and took off west on 132 Avenue.

The driver later tried to make a left turn onto 113A Street from 137 Avenue when the SUV hit a tree at the corner of the intersection.
