A young man is dead after the car he was driving crashed into a Richmond pump station Monday evening.

Richmond RCMP say it happened around 8 p.m. at Gilbert Road and Dyke Road, beside the Fraser River.

A red car was driving south on Gilbert but didn’t stop at the intersection, instead veering to the left, hitting the pump station and making a large hole in the wall.

Crews performed CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released, but RCMP say he was a man around 20 years old.

RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash, but so far have not released any details.
