SASKATOON – Alex Forsberg scored shorthanded at 18:15 of the second period to help lead the Saskatoon Blades over the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 on Friday.
Landon Welykholowa and Sam McKechnie also chipped in for Saskatoon (3-6-0).
Conner Bleackley and Brett Cote each had a goal for the Rebels (3-6-1).
The Blades are back on the ice Saturday when they take on the Edmonton Oil Kings. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
In other WHL action involving Saskatchewan teams, Ivan Provorov struck twice and added an assist in the Brandon Wheat Kings’ 8-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos.
Duncan Campbell also had two goals for Brandon (7-2-1). Jesse Gabrielle, Rihards Bukarts, Braylon Shmyr and Tim McGauley rounded out the offence.
Jake DeBrusk, Carter Rigby and Coda Gordon chipped in for the Broncos (6-6-1).
Blake Orban and Edgars Kulda both scored in the first five minutes of the game as the Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Prince Albert Raiders 3-1.
Brandon Ralph added an empty-net goal for Edmonton (6-3-0).
Reid Gardiner replied with his sixth of the season for the Raiders (3-6-0).
In Cranbrook, B.C., Wyatt Hoflin turned away 34 shots to record his first shutout of the season as the Kootenay Ice blanked the Regina Pats 1-0.
Troy Murray scored on the power play 33 seconds into the second period for the Ice (3-6-0).
Daniel Wapple stopped 15 shots for the Pats (4-4-1) in the loss.
The Portland Winterhawks downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-2 as Oliver Bjorkstrand found the back of the net twice and added an assist.
Dominic Turgeon also had two goals for the Winterhawks (2-7-2) while Alex Schoenborn and Layne Viveiros rounded out the attack.
Brayden Point and Brett Howden responded for Moose Jaw (5-4-1).
