WATCH: Armstrong students learn online safety

ARMSTRONG – Some middle school students in Armstrong got a lesson in online safety today.

While many young people are already tech savvy, they are being reminded that everything they put on the web can become public and is permanent.

“I stress that because young people don’t necessarily have the developmental capacity to project very far into the future. I don’t know about you, but at thirteen I was immortal and nothing bad was every going to happen,” says Merlyn Horton executive director of the Safe Online Education Society.”We need to put that message to them over and over and over again to make sure they try to develop some discretion about what it is that they post.”

The society has done eight different presentations a five schools between Tappen and Kelowna over the past week.
