Calgarians think city is safe but want more CPS officers on the street

Results from the Calgary Police Commission Citizen Survey show that overall residents think the city is a safe place to live.

According to the survey Calgarians are also confident that CPS is able to deliver needed services but want to see more officers patrolling the city.

One thousand people took the survey between July and August 2014.

Participants were asked about their view of the police department, crime and safety in Calgary, victimization and reporting.

Results from the survey will be used by the Police Commission and CPS to set priorities and for future planning.

Additional key findings of the survey:

– 96% of respondents indicate overall satisfaction with the Calgary Police Service

– House break and enters are the crime and safety issue of most concern to respondents

– Illegal gang activity and assault causing injury are issues of second most concern to respondents

– 9% of respondents indicate personally being a victim of crime in the 12 months preceding the survey
