HALIFAX – Police have charged a man who allegedly climbed a construction crane in Halifax and assaulted an officer trying to help get him to safety.
Officers were called to the Nova Centre construction site at the corner of Argyle Street and Sackville Street around 1 a.m. on Tuesday after two men were spotted climbing a crane on the property, which is gated to prevent public access.
The men had climbed down by the time officers arrived and were standing on the top floor of a building under construction, unable to find a way out.
Officers climbed up and arrested one of the men for public intoxication.
The other, 23-year-old Darren Andre Pettipas, allegedly refused co-operate and pushed one of the arresting officers.
Both men were eventually brought down safely, and nobody was injured.
Pettipas was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
He was held in custody overnight and due to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Tuesday.
