VERNON – It’s a bit of a setback but a Vernon man says he won’t let the actions of a thief deter him from pushing forward with his annual fundraiser.
For the past three years, Save-On-Foods manager Jim Tennant has been camping out on the store rooftop raising money and food for the local food bank.
On Tuesday evening someone stole a donation kettle filled with more than $100.
The kettle was hanging from a rope tied to the roof.
The thief cut the rope and stole the kettle with all the cash inside.
So far this year Tennant has raised more than 11,000 pounds of food but he is hoping to collect 25,000.
He’s hoping for a big push over the next couple of days as he appeals to the community to help with the cause.
Tennant admits it’s been a bit of rough ride this year with the cool and wet weather and an intense thunderstorm earlier in the week but says it’s well worth it.
