Pistol packing pastor catches serial thief in the act

The old saying “Don’t mess with Texas” apparently extends to members of the pastorate as well, after a Texas holy man laid a trap for a serial robber in his neighbourhood – then confronted her on his front lawn, gun in hand.

The bizarre confrontation began when Bayton, Texas Pastor Benny James Holmes became aware that someone was stealing delivery items such as boxes, books, and decorations off the front porches of his neighbour’s homes.

Then the pastor’s security cameras caught the woman  in the act, nabbing items off the pastor’s own doorstep.

So Holmes decided to lay a trap for the would-be robber, setting up some dummy boxes in his front yard and waiting for the thief to come around.

“I put some dummy boxes out, and sure enough about 5:10 in the afternoon here she comes again thinking she was going to get her gift again. But she met the homeowner: me,” Holmes told Local 2 News in Houston, Texas.

But the pugnacious pastor was armed with more than the good word of the Lord – he was carrying a pistol.

“When I came out of my house and she turned the corner here, she met me and my gun. She said, ‘I’m looking for my dog,’ I said, ‘Well, guess what? You just found your dog. Bow, wow, wow.'”

Eventually, Baytown police arrived to apprehend the woman they describe as a habitual thief.

As for Pastor Holmes, he believes his actions were justified by Holy Scripture.

“The Bible tells us not to steal and if you do, steal no more,” Holmes said. “Eventually, you’re going to get caught, and now you have to pay a price.”
