Police investigate string of overnight break-ins in southwest Edmonton

EDMONTON — Edmonton police are investigating after a string of overnight break and enters in the city’s southwest.

The first invasion happened at a townhouse in the area of 62 Avenue and 178 Street on Sunday, August 31. Police say a family was woken up by an intruder around 3 a.m., but the family yelled and the suspect left the home. Police say they do not have a description of the suspect.

On Wednesday, September 3, another break and enter was reported, in the area of 69 Avenue and 180 Street. Police say an intruder, believed to be a man, entered a home around 3 a.m. The residents were woken up by their barking dogs and the suspect fled the scene. Officers say some items that were being stored outside the home were stolen.

The most recent break and enter happened around 1 a.m. Friday, at a home in the area of 98 Street and 79 Avenue. Police say a woman inside the house was woken up by a strange man who entered her basement bedroom. She called for help to a family member in the house and the suspect was scared off. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his 20s with a thin build. He was wearing a dark hoodie and baggy jeans, police said.

Police say while most break and enters happen during the day when residents aren’t home, they encourage residents to take precautions and secure their homes by keeping doors and windows locked at all times.
