TORONTO – A 21-year-old woman charged in connection with the stabbing of a University of Toronto professor has been ordered by a judge to get a mental health assessment.
A bail hearing for Xiao Yue Zhou was delayed on Thursday in order to get the assessment.
The 42-year-old professor was stabbed in the arm and leg at a downtown campus building on Wednesday and was taken to hospital with what police called minor lacerations.
Zhou was arrested in the office and police have said a weapon was recovered, but a motive for the attack was not revealed.
Zhou is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, criminal harassment and possession of a dangerous weapon.
She is scheduled to return to court for another bail hearing on Oct. 8.
