SASKATOON – A story Global New ran has been generating reaction on school bus routes and safe drop-off locations.

First Student Canada recommends motorists come to a complete stop when a student is being picked up or dropped off, however it is not a requirement in Saskatoon.

City bylaws prohibit the use of safety lights and stop arms located within city boundaries so traffic can remain moving at all times.

“Notwithstanding Section 22 of The Traffic Safety Act, the driver of a school bus shall not use the safety lights on the bus while operating the bus within the corporate limits of the City of Saskatoon.“
Bylaw No. 7200, The Traffic Bylaw

However under the Act, drivers travelling on a highway in the same direction of a school bus that engages its’ safety lights and stop arm are required to stop and not proceed until the drop-off or pick-up is finished.
