Vancouver-made chocolate bar named best in the world

VANCOUVER – A chocolate bar made in Vancouver has won the title of ‘Top Chocolate Bar’ at the 2014 International Chocolate Salon in San Francisco, California.

The bar, called Mermaid’s Choice made by Mink Chocolates, beat out entries from across Canada, the U.S. and around the world. It did tie for first place with New South Wales’s Zokoko – Tranquilidad Bolivia 72%.

However, Mermaid’s Choice also earned awards in other categories, winning gold in the Best Ingredient Combinations and Best Texture. It earned silver for Best Mixed Chocolate Bar and Best Taste and bronze for Most Unique.

“This is a big deal,” said Marc Lieberman, president and founder of Mink Chocolates. “It’s a validation that you can stand up with all of the big players, all of the creative people, and there are lots of them out there, and really make something that speaks to the quality, to a wide range of taste profiles, and people’s opinions that sort of thing.”
