UPDATE at 4:00 p.m. – BC Ambulance Services says one person is in critical condition and two people are in stable condition, following the collision. They are being treated at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm.
There was another accident shortly after, involving a motorcycle that rear ended another vehicle while trying to avoid the traffic, according to BCAS. Two people have been taken to a hospital in Kamloops and are in stable condition.
UPDATE at 2:18 p.m. – The highway is now opened to single lane alternating traffic.
TAPPEN — Traffic is snarled after a vehicle incident, shutting down Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm.
Drive BC reports Highway 1 is closed in both directions at Tappen, 150m west of Sunnybrae/Canoe Point Road.
