Burnaby RCMP and New Westminter Police arrested 18 people living in the same house in a joint investigation earlier this month.
They seized a large amount of weapons and miscellaneous stolen goods from a home in the 7700-block of 6th Street, after numerous complaints about possible criminal activity.
16 of the men were released, but one is facing numerous charges, while the other is being kept in custody on an outstanding warrant.
“This is a great example of the high level of communication and cooperation between the Burnaby RCMP and New Westminster Police Department to target areas of criminal activity that impacts our two communities. We’re stronger working together especially when we have areas of joint concern,” said Chief Superintendent Dave Critchley, Burnaby RCMP’s Officer-in-Charge, in a statement.
During the search, a large cache of weapons were seized, including:
- stun gun
- machetes
- 10 swords
- 9 knives
- switchblade
- pepper spray
- crossbow
- ammunition
- numerous pellet guns
- collapsible baton
- bayonets
- low-grade body armour
- unspecified explosive device
- .38 calibre handgun (decommissioned)
Several items were also recovered, including two war medals — one believed to be from Vietnam and another from World War 2 — plus coin collections, a mountain bike, point-of-sale terminal (credit/debit card swipe machine) and various pieces of ID.
The City of Burnaby has also conducted a property inspection identifying a number of bylaw deficiencies and is in the process of working with the property owner to comply with repairs.
The City of Burnaby and the Burnaby RCMP will continue to monitor the property, say police.
