PENTICTON–Seventeen people in Penticton are being forced out of their homes, after a housing complex was condemned.
The B.C. Fire Commissioner has signed an evacuation order for 360 Martin Street in Penticton, known as The Three Gables Hotel.
Conditions have been deemed unsafe in case of fire, including missing doors, holes in walls, and a lack of fire breaks.
One resident says few of the 17 men and women affected are ready to leave, but the fire department has only given them until friday to clear out.
Several agencies are working to try to find acommodation for those being forced out of the unsafe housing, including Kelowna’s Gospel Mission, which has agreed to take any or all of them in.
There is concern that residents of The Three Gables are of limited financial means.
