WATCH: Annual camp trip goes ahead despite teachers strike

The labour dispute between BC Teachers and their employer threatened to cancel a grade six camping trip, but some Okanagan parents stepped in to make sure that didn’t happen.

Every year the grade 6 students at Rose Valley Elementary in West Kelowna look forward to a three day stay at Silver Lake.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

In light of the job action, school administration told parents and kids that the trip had to be cancelled.

More than 20 parents organized an alternative trip to Green Bay Bible Camp and although it was not the camping trip the kids were looking forward to, the kids are still grateful.

Parents did however run into some road blocks with union representatives.

One union rep told parents that if teachers helped out those teachers could face legal action.
