EDMONTON – A man is dead and a woman injured after a collision that sparked a large grass fire near Lac La Biche Tuesday night.

The RCMP says the driver lost control of her vehicle about 10 kilometers south of Lac La Biche shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled several times before hitting a power pole. The power lines fell to the ground and started a large grass fire.

People who saw the crash stopped to help. The RCMP says they cut the 26-year-old driver’s seat belt, and pulled her out of the vehicle and away from the fire. She was taken by air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital where she is being treated.

After extinguishing the fire, emergency crews found the body of a man in the grass.
