Vancouver police are searching for a woman who allegedly robbed and assaulted an elderly man in Oppenheimer Park on Sunday.
Sgt. Randy Fincham said an 80-year-old Asian man was walking through the park, located in the 400-block of Powell Street, at around 12 p.m. when he was allegedly attacked by a woman.
According to police, the woman dragged the man into a washroom and robbed him of a small amount of cash.
The man was choked and left unconscious in the washroom, police said.
The woman ran off, leaving the man with a broken nose and bruises to his face.
He is recovering in hospital in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian woman in her 30s with shoulder-length dark wavy hair.
She is around 5’2″ tall with a heavy build.
“This robbery is an unconscionable act against a vulnerable member of our community,” said VPD spokesperson Sergeant Randy Fincham. “We are asking for the public’s help to identify the woman responsible for this attack.”
Anyone with information about this attack is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
