WINNIPEG – Manitoba Highway 204 from Highway 212 to Selkirk is closed because it’s awash with Red River flood water.
Rising flood water covered the highway and the province issued closed it at 9:30 p.m. Ice jammed the Red just north of Selkirk on Monday morning.
The ice jam was at the bridge between Selkirk and East Selkirk on Sunday evening, but had moved north overnight.
The Red River crested at Emerson, Man., at the U.S. border, over the weekend.
The crest is expected to reach Winnipeg on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Ice jams will determine the height of the crest.
The James Avenue level just before 9 a.m. Monday was 17.67 feet, the City of Winnipeg website said. The normal summer level at James Avenue is 6.5 feet, while 18 feet is considered a moderate flood level.
