Guitar signed by AC/DC stolen from White Rock restaurant

ABOVE: The owners of a White Rock restaurant are hoping you can help them find a unique guitar that was taken from them. Jill Bennett reports.

VANCOUVER – A guitar, signed by Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC, was stolen on April 6 from a restaurant on Marine Drive in White Rock and it has great sentimental value to the owners.

“They had a crowbar and got in and out in about three minutes,” said Preet Grewal, one of the owners of Charlie Don’t Surf, the restaurant the guitar was stolen from.

The 1961 Gibson SG LesPaul re-issue had a cherry finish with a distinct Angus Devil cartoon on it. It had been a fixture on this wall for ten years — after ACDC’s sound guy, a regular patron brought the Young brothers in. The thief was caught on surveillance video but the picture is grainy. He somehow by-passed the alarm.

“He obviously knew what he wanted, he was in and out,” said Grewal.

Andre Bourget of Tapestry Music said the signatures, while more sentimental in nature, would add two to three thousand dollars of value to the guitar.

White Rock RCMP are actively investigating and asking for the public’s assistance. The suspect is described as a heavier set male, with a black leather coat, black pants, and short white hair.
