The importance of CPR: Where to learn in B.C.

The fact that four full hours of CPR brought a Calgary woman trapped in a tree well near Whistler last week back to life is proof that tireless rescue efforts pay off.

Tonight on News Hour, Linda Aylesworth takes a closer look at the techniques of CPR and the mantra “never stop, never give up.”

A victim’s chances of survival will increase fourfold if someone starts CPR immediately.

Studies show that after two minutes, a normal person cannot perform CPR well. Which is why the chances of survival increase if there is more than one person on hand who knows CPR.

But what if you come across an emergency and you don’t know CPR? 85 per cent of the time that is the case in B.C.
