Some determined thieves who made off with an ATM machine appear to have made all that effort for nothing.

Calgary police were called to a gas station in the 3700 block of Richmond Road after reports of break-in Monday morning.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Officers arrived to find that someone had stolen an ATM from a Husky gas station.

“The culprits went through the front door, hooked up to the ATM machine and pulled it out through the door, “says acting Sergeant Bill Martin. “They weren’t able to get inside the machine at all.”

The thieves abandoned the ATM on the street nearby. It appears they weren’t able to remove any cash.

Investigators are now viewing surveillance video in hopes of tracking down the culprits.
