SASKATOON – Saskatoon police used a Taser on Wednesday to disarm a woman brandishing a butcher’s knife.

Police were call to a residence in the 100-block of Edinburgh Place just before 2 a.m. after a call came in that a woman was threatening to harm herself.

Responding officers were trying to defuse the situation when the woman pulled a butcher’s knife and advanced towards one of the officers.

The Taser was used after repeated attempts to disarm the woman were unsuccessful.

She was uninjured and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Two other people at the home were not injured.

A preliminary review of the incident shows policy and rational for the use of the Taser followed Saskatoon Police Service policy.
