Maple Ridge man faces several charges following alleged stabbing

A 42-year-old Maple Ridge man is facing several charges after allegedly stabbing a loss prevention officer in Chilliwack on Friday afternoon.

At 3:50 p.m. two loss prevention officers were in the middle of an arrest of a shoplifter when the man pulled out a knife and stabbed one officer in the leg. The two officers were able to detain the shoplifter until the police arrived.

The loss prevention officer was taken to hospital for treatment of his minor injury.

Shane Appleby was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and theft under $5,000. He was also arrested on an outstanding North Vancouver warrant in relation to a theft charge.

Appleby was kept in custody and will be in court today.
