Roberto Luongo traded to Florida Panthers

Watch: It’s all over for Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks. After 8 years, Luongo was suddenly traded back to the Florida Panthers. And as Jay Durant reports, it ends the long- running drama that seemed to overshadow everything in Canuck nation.

The Vancouver Canucks have traded goalie Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers. The team has officially confirmed they have acquired Jakob Markstrom  and Shawn Matthias in exchange for Luongo and Steven Anthony.

Luongo didn’t get the start in last weekend’s Heritage Classic and publicly expressed his disappointment.

He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in June 2006.

The Vancouver Canucks have Tweeted this afternoon, thanking Luongo for his time as a Canuck.

In a span of nine months, the Canucks have traded away Luongo and Cory Schneider. The team now has two goalies who have played a combined 68 NHL games.

Luongo had the most wins in the Canucks history with 252.

Luongo sent out a tweet of a palm tree on his Twitter account shortly after the news broke, which has already been re-tweeted thousands of times.
