City bus hits the streets for property tax feedback

CALGARY- The city is looking for input into how much property taxes should go up over the next four years.

The Action Plan bus will drive around town, gathering Calgarians’ thoughts about the budget that will be unveiled this fall.

An interactive website shows that to maintain services, taxes will likely jump five per cent per year.

While the mayor says that’s a likely scenario in the short term, something needs to change.

“We have to fix the broken system, either by massively redesigning how we re-deliver services—which means delivering fewer citizens to a growing city—or by fixing the revenue problem.”

The results of the consultation program should be ready in May.
