MONTREAL – The arson squad has taken over an investigation into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home under construction in Côte-St-Luc.
About 110 firefighters and 40 vehicles were called to the scene of the five-alarm fire at 12:20 a.m. Monday morning.
No injuries were reported, although 12 residents living close to the construction site had to be evacuated after the fire spread to adjacent homes.
Construction on the half-completed and empty single family home had apparently been on hold since June last year.
The Montreal fire department confirmed that a preliminary estimate for damages ranged between $600,000 and $800,000.
The house was being built at the corner of Tommy Douglas and Abraham de Sola Streets.
