TORONTO — Canadian rapper Drake will appear on the first episode of Saturday Night Live of 2014.

The Toronto music star will be the host and musical guest on Jan. 18.

Drake performed on SNL in 2011 but has never hosted.

The 27-year-old has plenty of acting experience, having played Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation for eight years. He has also appeared on episodes of Being Erica and the made-in-Toronto movies Charlie Bartlett and Breakaway.

Drake will also feel right at home on SNL. The show’s creator and executive producer is Toronto-born Lorne Michaels and former cast members include Canadians Mike Myers, Norm Macdonald and Dan Aykroyd.

Saturday Night Live airs in Canada on Global.
